A Spoon to mix it all up

It’s been a while since we did a flash demo, well here is a flash demo of the new Spoon (version 2.4.0, soon to be released) that allows you to load, execute and monitor transformations and jobs.

The demo below shows you how easy it is to use jobs and transformations alongside of each other.

Let me know what you think of these new evolutions!

Enjoy,

Matt

  1. i like it very much…very nice improvement. If you double click a transformation in the job tab, does that “drill thru” to the associated transformation?

    mario

  2. Very big job… as usual

    – Why not to rename Spoon : PDI Studio (something like that) cause now we can manage trans and jobs (SPOON + CHEF).
We can use PDI logo (in pentaho site)

    – Do u plain to combin kichen and pan (only one tool that will launch either trans and jobs)

    – One last thing, i see in the flash demo, new steps (sources tables, VTVL input,..), will u release them?

    Take care

  3. As usual, Samatar, you have good ideas. Perhaps we can do the rename before the 2.4.0 release. However, I’m sure even now a lot of people will wonder: where did Chef go? Communicating correctly is important there.

Kitchen/Pan combinations are not yet planned yet. Perhaps we can do it in the next release 🙂

The new steps you see are not steps but 3rd party plugins. A number of those have been written by people working on new query designers etc for which I don’t even have the source code yet. However I’m sure in time they will be released. (like the JS_Mod plugin)
As usual that is completely up to the discretion of the authors.

    All the best,

    Matt

  4. more ideas for names:

    PDI Workbench

Or if you want to maintain the Kimball Restaurant analogy:
    PDI Kitchenware
    PDI Utensils
    PDI Appliance
    PDI Executive Chef
    PDI Iron Chef
    PDI Carvery
    PDI Garde Manger
    PDI Maître d’

  5. something not too long…it’s better.
    I like PDI workbench.

    Some ideas :

    – PDI Work Studio (PWS)
    – PDI Studio (PS)
    – PDI Graphical Environment (PGE)
